LUKE5ADVENTURES “ROSIE” CHAIRS MAKE IT POSSIBLE
Using special all-terrain wheelchairs, called “Rosies,” trained volunteers are able to move “hikers” of any ability over rough trails, down staircases, across creek beds, and much more. For many participants, these chairs will make it possible to be immersed in nature in ways that would be otherwise impossible.
Volunteers, or "Sherpa's" are an extremely important component of this program. A minimum of sixteen volunteers are required per hike.
Our "Rosie's" allow us to provide an uplifting experience for everyone in the great outdoors. An orientation is provided prior to each event by lead Sherpas. We ask that volunteers arrive to the site by 8:30am. The first hike will commence at 9am, and the second at 10:30. Volunteers are expected to stay for both hikes. The hikes will end at approximately 12:00-12:30pm.
Two Sherpas carry a Rosie at a time. We schedule a minimum of four Sherpas for each Rosie to ensure all Sherpas can swap out when needed. There are four hikers scheduled for each time slot. This means up to sixteen hikers can get out on trails for each event with the help of volunteers!
For those who aren’t physically able to Hike IT, Forge IT, Climb IT, Cross IT, or Ascend IT, we can make IT possible.
A Sherpa in the Himalayan mountains physically assists a hiker to get through the valleys, over obstacles and up the mountain. The Sherpa’s help makes it possible for the hiker to realize a dream, without the Sherpa’s help the climb would be impossible.
At Luke5Adventures, a Sherpa does the same thing. They physically, spiritually and emotionally assist an individual impacted by disability in achieving something previously impossible. Although the pushing and pulling “Trail Sherpas” are the most visible, there are many other behind-the-scenes Sherpas who make these experiences happen to their greatest effectiveness.
